Farmer C.

Daddy made C. a very cool raised bed of his own, so today we bought dirt and plants to put in it. C. had fun at Lowe's looking at all the pictures to decide what to plant. He settled on two types of flowers, strawberries, watermelon, jalapeno peppers, and tomatoes. We'll have salsa and fruit salad I guess:)

First he had to prepare the dirt. I don't think he quite believed me that we were mixing cow poop in, even when I showed him the pieces, but he had fun pushing it around with the rake, and Mommy didn't really have to help. He took some time deciding where everything would go, then dug the holes:

That part was fun!
Here it is all finished:

Watering everything - his favorite part:

Watering Mommy - hey!

Smart Aleck in Sickness or in Health

2AM. S., who has a cold, and isn't sleeping, is tucked into bed between Mommy and Daddy. Who, of course, aren't sleeping either.

S. starts patting Daddy's arm, saying softly, "Daddy, Daddy."

Mommy murmers sleepily, "Do you love your Daddy?"

S. smiles sweetly at Daddy - and gives him the royal raspberry.

Volcano Update

We put red food coloring in, but it didn't show up until the end. We decided this looks like the clouds of steam and ash you see in pictures.

Completely unrelated, except that I wish C. had been with me when it dropped down right in front of the van this morning:

Another cool thing about NM, you never know what will fall out of the sky. C's whole room is decorated in hot air balloons, so I was really bummed he didn't get to see this one set down. Odds are there will be some tomorrow, though, so we can cause a couple near-accidents on the way to church!

C. has been way into volcanoes lately, and Mom had a rare day off with no appointments. We started off the day by building a volcano outside. By "we" I mean Mom dug up some dirt, C. gave it a couple stirs, and then Mom built the volcano because when she told C. to go ahead and stick his hands in the mud, he looked at her like she was insane.

He did consent to poking a few pine cones and rocks in the finished product.
S. was a big help in picking out rocks and sticks, but NOT happy that she wasn't allowed to sample the finished product - which probably reminded her of her birthday cake!

Now we just need to let it dry a bit, and when Daddy and M. get home we'll have our big explosion. In the meantime, we decided S. had the right idea, and we needed an edible volcano, too.
Duncan Hines makes lava - who knew?
Thanks for the eggs, ladies!
While the volcano was baking and S. took a VERY short nap, we got to work on Mom's $5 splurge from yesterday.
I told him they would need to dry for a few hours before we could paint them. He said, "I'll wait," and refused to budge. Fortunately, Moms know what smell drives men wild:
Who needs expensive perfume?
While that cools, we'll take a lunch break.

I don't know why Mom makes me eat naked.
And a bath. Second one of the day.
Time to frost and decorate!
Did we mention Cake Wrecks is one of our favorite sites? (Scroll down to the last cake. There, now doesn't ours look much better?)
Stay tuned for the explosion later tonight! S. is now down for a nap, so we are going to go paint our race cars while we have the chance.

It's a...

...three-legged girl? Or, according to big sister, "leg, leg, kick-stand." Things to embarrass him with when he's bigger. That and the fact that all his parts and pieces were broadcast on the internet before he was even born. No name yet, because Daddy is still trying to wrap his mind around the fact that he's a BOY.
(For those not familiar with ultrasounds, this is a view from the bottom up, so to speak.)

Missed Pictures

Missed the cutest pictures today: pretty blonde teen leaning off the bus to give her big yellow dog one last pat, then big yellow dog watching to make sure the bus pulled away safely before trotting back home again. He'll be there to meet her this afternoon, too. I love living in High Rolls!
